“Celebration of Smiles Day” April 21st in Ashland, Oregon

Hello Friends!

I thought you would want to know about a very special promotion we will be participating in with other photographers from around the country.  On April 21, 2012 we will host “Celebration of Smiles Day”  in Ashland, a wonderful opportunity for you to update individual portraits of your family members and at the same time support the work of Operation Smile, which treats children around the world who suffer with cleft lips, cleft palates and other facial deformities.

Along with other participating members of Professional Photographers of America (PPA), we have pledged to donate 100% of each $24 donation made to PPA Charities, which has chosen Operation Smile as its charitable partner.

Evoking and capturing the smiles of children is our ultimate goal. That’s why we believe so strongly in the work of Operation Smile. Each year this incredible organization of more than 5,000 volunteer doctors, nurses, dentists, and specialized health care professionals, perform free reconstructive surgeries for children suffering with cleft lips, cleft palates and other facial deformities.

Every three minutes a child somewhere in the world is born with a facial deformity. One in ten will not survive to see their first birthday. Those who do survive often live in isolation and pain. More than 100,000 children are born with a facial deformity each year in Operation Smile’s 26 partner countries.

I hope you will join with us in helping to make this vital work possible.  As always . . . we look forward to creating some truly wonderful portraits of your children!

Warm wishes,

Crystal Garcia

Summer Time

As some of you may know, we spent the month of June in Louisiana and in preparation for Brian and I going to Kenya for two weeks with Share International, beginning next week. It has been great to be around family and friends, and to be doing lots of shooting! Please note I will be out of touch next week for the following two weeks, until then, here’s a few pictures from June!

So it has been interesting coming “home.” A lot different than I expected in fact. I guess its the feeling that I have changed and we (Brian, Autumn, Josiah and I) have all changed so therefore it almost seems as if this place feels changed because we are different. It’s hard to describe, and I am rambling. But I know I have enjoyed photographing kids who I shot their births and newborn photos who aren’t babies anymore, hanging out with family and friends and changing up the routine. This images are a random compilation of family, friends and clients from the past month. It has been great to be near you all!

Orange Poppies On the Roadside

I would like to tell you that today I met my new friend Amanda in some beautiful park for a play date, and during our fun time of conversation and child watching I took these pictures. In reality, we met on the side of the I-5 near an overpass and let our kids watch cartoons in our minivans while I took a few shots of each of Amanda’s girls. Not nearly as heart warming, but hey motherhood isn’t glamorous! :)

Thanks Amanda, for bring me your two lovely ladies to photograph today, next time we will get together for a play date and have a real conversation. :)

I sure am loving that in our new home in Ashland (and well all of Southern Oregon), it is still spring time! Everything is blooming and gorgeous and the highs are around 74! Sorry Louisiana, but that beats your 80 and 90 degree summer that you are getting already!
